I just noticed that the winning project for the on/day/1 project had to do with planting a garden:
http://www.ondayone.org/
http://www.ondayone.org/node/661

Here is the text of the winning submission: "Announce plans for a large organic Victory Garden on the First Lawn with the produce going to the White House kitchen and local food pantries. The White House is "America's House" and should serve as a model at a time of economic and environmental crisis. President-elect Obama would not be breaking with tradition, but returning to it (the White House has had food gardens before) and leading by personal example on global challenges such as food security, climate change, and energy independence"

About on/day/1: "On Day One is a project of the Better World Fund, which works to build a stronger relationship between the United States and the United Nations. Over the next year, we want you to be part of a global conversation about how international cooperation can be harnessed to address the world's most critical challenges, and how working together is more effective than going it alone in the world."
